Lickey Hills Country Park
Come and explore the Lickey Hills in Worcestershire using the very latest technology. Even though we will be visiting this area in real time we will be using an app to explore the past.
Rockwatchers will be taking part in a ‘Voyage of Discovery’, exploring ancient environments that existed many millions of years ago – in deep time. We will be using technology to explain the modern-day landscape in terms of the rocks that underlie it and the ancient environments in which the rocks were formed. Local geological experts will be leading the day’s activities – exploring sites in the Lickey Hills area that are covered with the app and those that aren’t.
During your ‘voyage’ you’ll have access to illustrations of present and past landscapes and climate plus information about Earth science concepts. The app uses GPS positioning to identify the local rock type.
But if you don’t have the app or can’t download it, it doesn’t matter. You can still have a great time exploring and learning about the geology of the area.
You must be a Rockwatch member to go and the booking fee for this fieldtrip is £2.50 per individual. All children attending and their accompanying adults must book places.
