Are you passionate about geology and keen to inspire the next generation of rock stars? Rockwatch, the junior branch of the Geologists’ Association, is on the lookout for a Field Trip Manager to help organise and deliver our exciting calendar of geological adventures across the UK.
Thanks to the growing success of Rockwatch and increasing demand for field trips, this volunteer role offers a unique opportunity to be part of something truly special. Perhaps you’re in the earlier stages of your career and seek to enrich your professional experiences, or you’re at a different point in your life and would enjoy sharing some of the passion and knowledge you’ve amassed so far. With over 1,000 members aged 7–17, Rockwatch gives young geology enthusiasts unforgettable, hands-on experiences—fuelled by a love for rocks, fossils, and the world around them.
What’s involved?
- Coordinating a variety of field trips—mainly during school holidays and weekends, with August being a particularly active month
- Working with world-class experts who regularly lead our events, including our much-loved annual residential trip to the Jurassic Coast
- Engaging with members and their families (note: all children are accompanied by a responsible adult, so no teaching experience is required)
- Helping shape and grow an events programme that excites, educates, and inspires
Whether you’re an experienced geologist, a keen amateur, or someone who loves the outdoors and enjoys working with young people, this role could be a perfect fit. You’ll be supported by a friendly and knowledgeable team and have the chance to make a real difference.
