Our Rockwatch fossil hunting trips to Folkestone in April and June proved hugely popular and filled up very quickly. Due to the demand, we’re delighted to add another opportunity to join us!
📅 Saturday 17th October 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 4:00pm
📍 Folkestone, Kent
Folkestone is famous among fossil hunters and geologists. The rocks here date back to the Cretaceous Period, around 110 million years ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the land and the sea was beginning to advance across what is now southern England.
In recent years this area has even produced evidence of dinosaur footprints – believed to be the last dinosaurs to have walked in Britain.
During this Rockwatch field trip you’ll:
- Learn how to spot and identify fossils on the beach
- Discover the geological story of the Folkestone cliffs
- Search for fossils including ammonites, shells and other Cretaceous marine life
- Enjoy a hands-on day of discovery with experienced fossil hunters
This trip is suitable for families and young fossil enthusiasts, with plenty of opportunities to explore and learn together.
Because our previous Folkestone trips filled up quickly, we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
