Rockwatch Summer Events Programme 2026

Rockwatch Summer Events Programme 2026

This summer, Rockwatch is heading to beaches, cliffs, quarries and coastlines across the UK for a fantastic programme of fossil hunts and geological adventures for young explorers and their families.

Whether you’re searching for sharks’ teeth at Bracklesham Bay, exploring Jurassic rocks at Staithes, discovering Ice Age geology at Skipsea or uncovering ancient fossils at Walton-on-the-Naze, there’s something for every budding geologist this summer.

Our 2026 summer programme includes:

🦈 Bracklesham Bay Fossil Hunt – West Sussex

Saturday 16 May 2026
Join David & Anne Bone as we explore the shoreline at low tide searching for Eocene fossil shells and sharks’ teeth.

Perfect for families and younger Rockwatchers — no tools required, just curiosity and a sense of adventure and something to put your fossils finds in!

🦕 Lyme Regis Fossil Festival – Dorset

13–14 June 2026
Come and visit Rockwatch at one of the UK’s biggest fossil festivals! Expect hands-on activities, fossils, family fun and plenty of Jurassic Coast excitement.

🪨 Staithes Fossil Hunt – North Yorkshire

Saturday 4 July 2026
Led by Professor Kevin G. Taylor, this ever-popular field trip explores the famous Jurassic rocks and ironstones of the Yorkshire coast, with opportunities to spot ammonites, belemnites and trace fossils.

👣 Skipsea Withow Mere Field Trip – East Yorkshire

Friday 14 August 2026
Travel back to the Ice Age as we investigate glacial deposits, fascinating pebbles and fossils transported by ancient ice sheets along the Yorkshire coast.

🦈 Fossil Hunting at Walton-on-the-Naze – Essex

Sunday 23 August 2026
One of Rockwatch’s favourite fossil-hunting locations returns! Search the foreshore for shark teeth, shells and other treasures hidden within the famous London Clay and Red Crag deposits.

Some events are already fully booked, and many have limited spaces available, so early booking is strongly recommended.

🎟️ Most field trips are exclusively for Rockwatch members and accompanying adults.
👉 Visit the Rockwatch events page for booking information and the latest updates on all events.

A huge thank you to all our volunteer leaders who help make these adventures possible for young geologists across the UK.
