We’re particularly excited to announce three fantastic speakers who will be sharing their knowledge and discoveries.
Impossible Fossils – Professor Phil Manning
How do scientists uncover fossils that seem almost impossible to find?
Join internationally renowned palaeontologist Professor Phil Manning, Director of Science at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, as he shares fascinating discoveries from his career investigating dinosaurs and ancient life.
Phil has written books for young readers and presented award-winning science documentaries for BBC, National Geographic and Discovery. His enthusiasm for bringing prehistoric worlds to life is sure to inspire budding palaeontologists!
Lunar Science – Professor Katherine Joy
Have you ever wondered what Moon rocks can tell us about the history of our Solar System?
Professor Katherine Joy from the University of Manchester studies real lunar samples collected by Apollo astronauts, searches for meteorites in Antarctica and helps NASA prepare for future Artemis missions to the Moon.
And with real Moon rocks on display at the Festival, this is a wonderful opportunity for young space enthusiasts to discover more about our nearest neighbour!
The Secret Ingredient for a Habitable Planet – Dr Lucia Pérez-Díaz
What makes Earth such a special place to live? And how has our amazing planet changed over millions of years?
Join Earth scientist, author and illustrator Dr Lucia Pérez-Díaz as she explores the clues hidden in rocks and the geological record that help scientists piece together Earth’s fascinating past.
Lucia is also the author and illustrator of children’s geology books, and she’ll be signing copies of her latest titles, How the Oceans Work and How the Earth Works, written especially for curious young readers aged 7–10.
A wonderful opportunity for young Rockwatchers to meet a real Earth scientist and discover books that bring the story of our planet to life!
