If your children can’t resist stopping to look at interesting rocks or dream of finding their own fossils, our upcoming Gamelands Stone Circle & Carboniferous Fossil Hunt in Cumbria is the perfect family adventure.

While we’ll begin by exploring one of Britain’s lesser-known prehistoric stone circles and uncovering the mystery of its giant granite boulders, that’s just the start of the day.

Our real mission is to head into the surrounding limestone landscape, where an incredible fossil-hunting experience awaits.

We’ll spend most of the day searching fossil-rich outcrops and old quarries for Carboniferous brachiopods, corals and other ancient marine fossils, discovering the remains of creatures that lived in tropical seas over 330 million years ago.

There’ll be plenty of opportunities to climb safely across the grassy hillside, investigate fascinating rock formations, photograph your favourite discoveries and, with a little luck, find loose fossils amongst the quarry debris to take home.

Led by experienced geologist Audrey Brown, this promises to be a fun, hands-on day packed with exploration, discovery and plenty of opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Whether you’re an experienced fossil hunter or just beginning your geological journey, we’d love you to join us for this hidden Cumbrian gem.

Book your place today and see what ancient treasures you can discover!
