This year’s live talks, workshops and break out discussion rooms at the Virtual Festival of Geology 2021 are a fascinating mix of topics to appeal to any young geology enthusiast.

The events are all taking place live on Saturday 6th November  2021 so make sure you put the day aside to immerse yourself in the full programme of events.

Live Talks 

The lectures all feature a live Q & A with the speaker afterwards – and all are completely FREE

The Permian-Triassic Hyperthermal Crisis: How Heat Kills (10.30am – 11.30am)

You only need to book one festival talk ticket per household and it will be valid to attend any or all of these exciting lectures. The Live Talks tickets are separate to the Discovery Room and Break Out Room tickets.

Discovery Room Activities

Prefer to get stuck in with a practical activity and learn a new skill? Then head for the Discovery Room and join our special guides for some fun activities.

10.00am – 11.00am Pebble Spotting with Clive Mitchell of the British Geological Survey.

Clive will be running this activity live and linking it to his new book where appropriate. “The Pebble Spotter’s Guide” by Clive Mitchell.

11.00am – 12.30pm The Geological Collectors’ Workshop with Caroline Butler and Colleagues of the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff.

14.00pm – 15.00pm ‘Exploring the Ice: Climate change in the Arctic’ a live activity from the UCL GeoBus with Amy Edgington.

The Discovery Room tickets are separate to the festival Talks and Break Out Rooms. You only need to book one Discovery Room ticket per household and it will be valid to attend any or all of the activities.

Break Out Discussion Rooms 

If you fancy a more informal chat with geologists then feel free to dip in and out of any of the discussion rooms in between the live talks and workshops taking place.

This is a separate ticket to the festival talks and discovery room activities. You only need to book one Break Out Rooms ticket per household and it will be valid to attend any or all of these interactive meeting spaces. Timings to be announced nearer the event.
