Back to Staithes! Join Rockwatch for a Jurassic Fossil Adventure

Staithes Field Trip July 2026After a fantastic trip last year, Rockwatch is excited to return to the incredible coastline of Staithes on Saturday 4th July 2026!

This stretch of the North Yorkshire coast is one of the best places in the UK to explore rocks from the Lower Jurassic period, packed with fossils and stories from an ancient sea. It’s the perfect setting for a family-friendly day of discovery, and we’re delighted to once again be joined by Professor Kevin G. Taylor to guide us.

You’ll start the day by the harbour, learning how to read the landscape like a geologist, before heading out along the foreshore to explore mudstones and ironstones formed nearly 180 million years ago. Along the way, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to spot fossils like ammonites and belemnites—and to uncover clues about the environments they lived in.

And it’s not just about the rocks! Staithes is a stunning coastal location, with seabirds soaring overhead and the chance of spotting seals along the shoreline.

Whether you joined us last year or are coming for the first time, this is a brilliant opportunity to get hands-on with geology, build confidence in fossil hunting, and enjoy a day outdoors with fellow Rockwatchers.

Places are limited, so don’t miss out—book now and join us in Staithes!
