Celebrate International Geodiversity Day with Rockwatch

International Geodiversity Day 2025International Geodiversity Day is almost here, and Rockwatch is ready to celebrate in style! This global celebration takes place every year on 6 October, shining a spotlight on the many ways geodiversity – the rocks, fossils, minerals, soils, and landscapes around us – shapes our planet and our lives.

This year, we’re bringing you something extra special. We’ve teamed up with award-winning Earth Scientist, author, and TV presenter Dr Anjana Khatwa – also known as the rock whisperer! Anjana has spent much of her life uncovering the stories hidden in stone, and she’s passionate about helping young geologists (like Rockwatchers!) become rock whisperers too.

In our exclusive interview (which will be available to watch on the Rockwatch YouTube channel from the 6th October), Anjana shares:

  • Her childhood dream of becoming a storyteller of rocks
  • The magic of listening to what rocks have to tell us
  • Her top tips for Rockwatchers who want to start their own journey as rock whisperers
  • Fun, creative ways you can get stuck into celebrating International Geodiversity Day this year

But that’s not all. Anjana has also written a wonderful piece for us exploring:

  • What it really means to be a rock whisperer
  • and Why International Geodiversity Day is worth shouting about

You’ll find her article, plus links to her interview and more ideas for how to celebrate, on our website on International Geodiversity Day.

So whether you’re out exploring your local landscape, sketching your favourite fossil, or just tuning in to our YouTube interview, let’s all join together to celebrate the incredible diversity of planet Earth.

📅 Save the date: 6 October – International Geodiversity Day!
And don’t forget to share your celebrations with us – tag Rockwatch and let us know how you’re being a rock whisperer this year.
