Digging into Mary Anning’s Legacy: Rockwatch Heads Back to Somerset!
We’re thrilled to be heading back to one of Rockwatch’s most popular destinations — the Somerset Earth Science Centre — for a very special summer holiday trip focused on one of the most iconic figures in palaeontology: Mary Anning.
Taking place on Tuesday, 19th August, this unique event will give Rockwatchers the chance to discover more about Mary’s life and legacy, including the rare opportunity to see the GA Mary Anning maquette up close. Alongside fascinating displays, the centre will be running a series of creative workshops — from lino printing to fossil cleaning and prepping — where Rockwatchers and families can roll up their sleeves and engage with science in a fun and tactile way.
After a break for lunch (remember to bring a packed one!), we’ll head out for an afternoon fossil foray at Writhlington batch, a celebrated site known for its rich fossil beds. You never know what you might find beneath your feet!
Places are limited to 30 participants, so make sure you book soon. Whether you’re new to Rockwatch or a returning fossil fan, this trip is sure to be a summer highlight.
