It’s almost the summer holidays when many of you will enjoy a well deserved break from school. If, however, the thought of the long weeks at home bores you then we have just the thing for you!
Every year we run a competition for Rockwatchers to encourage you to hone your skills and interests in geology by sending us something geological.
For the under 16’s we invite entrants to submit a geological creation of their choosing. This might be an animation, a piece of artwork, a model, a story or a geological find. Check out our handy hints and tips for some inspiration.
For the over 16’s to 18’s we invite you to prepare a piece of writing. Again see the tips page for some ideas and to turn those thought processes into action.
Many of our Rockwatch winners go on to university and careers in the geological and other sciences – read what some of our former Rockwatchers have to say about taking part in the Rockwatch competitions and how this helped to encourage them to take things further.
And if that doesn’t tempt you to have a go, then maybe the thought of winning some fantastic prizes will help! Winners receive £150-worth of geological equipment, specimens, books, videos, or art materials and there are fantastic runner up prizes too. Not only that but you’ll be invited to receive your prizes at a very special prize-giving ceremony in September and have your work printed in our Rockwatch magazine.
