When we announced our Rockwatch fossil hunting trips to Folkestone earlier this year, we knew they would be popular — but we didn’t expect them to sell out quite so quickly!

Both the April and June trips filled up fast, and we heard from many Rockwatch families who were disappointed to miss out.

So, we’re excited to share some good news…

We’ve organised a third Folkestone fossil hunting adventure!

📅 Saturday 17th October 2026
10am – 4pm

Folkestone is one of the UK’s most famous fossil hunting locations. The rocks along this stretch of coastline date back to the Cretaceous Period, around 110 million years ago, when dinosaurs still roamed nearby land and ancient seas were gradually flooding southern Britain.

In fact, discoveries here have revealed evidence of dinosaur footprints – thought to belong to the very last dinosaurs that walked in Britain.

During our Rockwatch field trip, families will have the chance to explore the beach and learn how geologists and fossil hunters spot clues from the past hidden among the rocks.

Young Rockwatchers will learn how to:

  • Recognise fossil-bearing rocks
  • Identify fossils such as ammonites and shells
  • Understand how the Folkestone cliffs formed
  • Discover the incredible story of dinosaurs in Britain

Fossil hunting is always an adventure – you never know what might be hiding among the stones!

If you missed out on the earlier trips, this is your chance to join us for a fun, hands-on day exploring one of Britain’s most exciting fossil sites.

But be quick… if the earlier trips are anything to go by, places won’t last long!
