Geodetecting and Fossil Hunting Field Trip on 5th May – NOW FULLY BOOKED!

This event is now fully booked. You can contact us to join the waiting list or check out other Rockwatch events coming up!

Join us on the next Rockwatch field trip to West Sussex for a spot of Building Stones Geodetective work at the historic Guildhall in Chichester, West Sussex, followed by a fossil hunt on Bracklesham beach from 11.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday 5th May 2024.

Activities:

  1. Building Stones Geodetective Work at Guildhall: Wear your geodetective hat as we explore the Guildhall, a former church of the Greyfriars. Field trip leader David Bone has prepared a fun quiz for participants, to test your geological knowledge. The quiz will be sent in advance, so don’t forget to print it out and bring a pen/pencil along with your hand lens or magnifier card to get an up-close look at the fascinating building stones.
  2. Lunch Break: Take a leisurely break for lunch at your convenience. Priory Park offers a nearby café, providing a perfect spot to relax and refuel for the afternoon ahead.
  3. Fossil Hunt at Bracklesham Beach: After lunch, head to Bracklesham seafront car park, where at 2:00 pm, David will conduct a “show & tell” of Bracklesham fossils. As the tide recedes, we’ll explore the wet sands for Eocene age fossil shells and, with any luck, discover sharks’ teeth. The expedition is scheduled to conclude around 4:00 pm, but you’re welcome to stay longer.

Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into the geological wonders of West Sussex! To secure your spot, ensure your Rockwatch membership is up to date, and get ready for an educational and fun-filled day. For more details visit the event booking page.
